The City of Wings

The blessing of magic brushed past Asher Tien, gracing his twin brother instead. While Zeke was born a seraph who could weave illusions with the flick of his hand and fly with a magnificent set of bronze wings, Asher was a human, watching with envy. The two masquerade as a single man to hide from the penetrating eye of King Marcos Celestin and every other elf in the kingdom of Mournstead, where a seraph faced two choices: die or have their precious wings shredded.

And it worked…until the Starlae, the night the stars tumble from the sky and only elves could stretch out their hands to feel the warmth of starfire. But Asher catches one, landing him a night in the dungeon and a scheduled visit to the executioner.

In the cell to his right sits Princess Pelonite Celestin, daughter to King Marcos Celestin, but no one believes her and she doesn’t understand why. She had been kept in her tower for as long as she could remember, only knowing her father and maiden. An elven girl with wild red hair and rounded ears, Pelonite longed to meet her people and rule over her kingdom, and she gets her chance once she falls out her window and sprouts wings of rose petals. But her people turned on her the moment she touched land and threw her in the dungeon of her own castle.

A fast friendship builds and when Zeke breaks them out, they embark on a journey chasing a fable, the City of Wings, where seraphs live free from elven tyranny. But they do not embark alone. Chased by a “dragon” who wants her bounty, an arrogant prince that wields fire magic and a quick temper, and the vicious king of Mournstead, the three unwind truths and lies embedded in themselves and their bloodlines while incidentally setting in motion a season of chaos across the realm.
